Our Academics

The Mountaineer Boys and Girls Club prides its services on a sharp focus on education.  Monday through Thursday we offer our Power Hour for homework and tutoring support, in addition to running support programming throughout the week.  Check out some of our offered programs below!
Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC Program

Funding for this 21st Century Community Learning Center is provided wholly or in part by a grant from the United States Department of Education under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title IV Part B, with grant administration carried out by the West Virginia Department of Education. 


SMART Moves is a research-based program of current and effective prevention techniques to help students deal with three of the most immediate threats to their well-being:  alcohol, other drugs, and teen pregnancy.


The Bricklab STEM includes over 6,500 bricks and 208 multi-faceted activities in construction engineering, mathematics and physics.

Lego We Do's activities explore what a robot is and isn't, and what robots do on earth and space!

Character Education

Character Education is a structured program focusing on building character and self-esteem by identifying and practicing specific virtues.  The program is a tool our staff uses to guide and teach members the content of their character as a first priority.

My. Future

Beginning with "Essentials", a suite of staff-facilitated project based experiences provide members of all ability levels with a foundation of technology skills in both hardware and software.

Junior Master Gardeners

The Junior Master Gardener program is an international youth gardening program of the University Cooperative Extension Network.  JMG engages children in hands-on learning experience as they develop an appreciation for the environment.
